What to Expect at Your First Boudoir Session in Cleveland, Ohio
If you are reading this, you might be feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. Perhaps you have been thinking about booking a boudoir session for months, or even years, but the fear of the unknown has held you back. You are not alone. Many women feel vulnerable at the thought of stepping in front of a camera, especially for something as intimate as boudoir photography.
At Agnes Szlapka Photography, my goal is not to photograph perfect women; it is to photograph real women. Every woman has a story, and each story is different. If you are considering boudoir photography in Cleveland, Ohio, I want to pull back the curtain and walk you through exactly what to expect. This is a safe space, and your experience should feel empowering, elegant, and entirely true to you.
The Consultation: Designing Your Dream Session
The journey begins long before you step into the studio. A successful boudoir session is built on trust and connection. During our initial consultation, we will discuss your vision, your comfort levels, and what you hope to gain from this experience.
This is the time to ask questions and share any insecurities you might have. Whether you want a dark, moody aesthetic or a bright, minimalist feel, we will tailor the session to reflect your personality. We will also discuss wardrobe options. While classic lingerie is always a beautiful choice, you are not limited to it. An oversized sweater, a silk robe, or even a simple white sheet can create stunning, timeless portraits. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident in what you are wearing.
Arriving at the Studio: A Safe and Calm Space
When you arrive at my Cleveland studio, you will be welcomed into a warm, judgment-free environment. My studio is designed to calm and inspiring, providing the perfect backdrop for your portraits.
Before we begin shooting, you will have time to settle in, listen to your favorite music, and relax. If you have opted for professional hair and makeup, this is when the pampering begins. Having your hair and makeup done by a professional not only ensures you look your best on camera, but it also gives you a chance to unwind and step into the mindset of a goddess.
The Photoshoot: Guided Posing and Gentle Direction
One of the biggest fears women have is not knowing how to pose. Please let that fear go. You do not need to be a professional model to have breathtaking boudoir photos.
Throughout the entire session, I will guide you through every movement, down to the placement of your hands and the tilt of your chin. My posing style is natural and fluid, designed to flatter your unique body type and highlight your best features. I will demonstrate the poses for you and provide gentle, encouraging feedback.
We will move at your pace. If a pose feels unnatural or uncomfortable, we will simply move on to something else. My goal is to notice you, to see you, and to pose you in a way that feels true to who you are.
What to Wear: From Classic Lingerie to the Skin Series
One of the most common questions I hear is, "What should I wear to my boudoir session?" The answer is simple: whatever makes you feel magnificent!.
Boudoir photography is not about appearing seductive for someone else; it is about embracing your feminine power and documenting your beauty in the stage of life you are in right now. Because of this, your wardrobe should reflect your personal style and comfort level. You can wear as much or as little as you like.
During our wardrobe and style consultation, we will discuss your vision and select 3 to 5 looks for your Signature Boudoir Shoot. Here are a few ways we can approach your wardrobe:
Classic and Elegant Lingerie
If you love the traditional boudoir aesthetic, classic lingerie is always a beautiful choice. A black lace bodysuit, a matching bra and panty set, or a delicate corset can create stunning, timeless portraits. We can incorporate accessories like sheer robes, stockings, or even a tailored blazer to add layers and texture to your look.
The White Sheet Collection
Sometimes, the most breathtaking images come from the simplest setups. My White Sheet Collection is a favorite for women who want a clean, minimalist, and effortlessly sexy option. Wrapped in crisp white sheets, the focus remains entirely on you—your expressions, your curves, and your natural beauty. It is an easy, stress-free option that always photographs beautifully.
The Skin Series: Raw and Artistic
If you want to skip the lingerie altogether, the Skin Series might be for you. Forget the bodysuits and heels; this collection is raw, artistic, and deeply empowering. We use light, shadow, and careful posing to create tasteful, fine-art nude portraits. Many women who choose this option tell me, "I can't believe how comfortable I was!" It is a profound way to celebrate your body as art.
Whether you choose full glam lingerie, a cozy oversized sweater, or the artistic vulnerability of the Skin Series, my goal is to ensure you feel confident and radiant. There are no costumes or trendy filters here—just real, raw, and elegant portraits of you.
The Atmosphere: Empowering and Transformative
Boudoir photography is about so much more than the final images; it is about the transformation that happens during the shoot. As the session progresses, you will likely feel your nerves melt away, replaced by a sense of empowerment and fierce confidence.
Many of my clients tell me that their boudoir session was a profound act of self-love. It is a ceremony—a way to reconnect with yourself and embrace your body exactly as it is today. You are radiant, beautiful, strong, and powerful. You are worth this experience.
The Reveal: Seeing Yourself in a New Light
After your session, the magic continues with the image reveal. This is often the most emotional part of the process. Seeing your beautifully retouched portraits for the first time can be a powerful, tear-filled moment.
My editing style is timeless and artistic. I focus on enhancing your natural beauty, not altering your appearance. Your photos will be real, raw, elegant, and 100% you. During the reveal, you will select your favorite images and choose how you want to preserve them, whether in a luxury heirloom album or as stunning wall art.

Frequently Asked Questions About Boudoir Photography
It is completely normal to have questions before booking your first session. Here are a few of the most common questions women ask me before they step into the studio:
Do I need to lose weight before my session?
Absolutely not. This is perhaps the most common fear women share with me, and I want to be very clear: you do not need to change your body to be worthy of beautiful photographs. Boudoir is about celebrating the body you have today. My posing and lighting techniques are designed to flatter your unique shape, whether you are a size 2 or a size 22. You are magnificent right now.
Will my photos be posted online?
Your privacy is my utmost priority. I will never share your images online, on social media, or in my portfolio without your explicit, written permission. Many of my clients choose to keep their images completely private, and I respect that boundary 100%. If you do choose to let me share an image anonymously to inspire other women, I am always grateful, but there is never any pressure to do so.
Can I bring a friend for support?
While I understand the desire to bring a friend for moral support, I highly recommend coming to your session alone. Having an audience—even a supportive one—often makes it harder to fully relax and let your guard down. I promise that within the first ten minutes of our session, we will be laughing, chatting, and you will feel completely at ease. This is your time to focus entirely on yourself.
Do you offer professional hair and makeup?
Yes! I strongly encourage adding professional hair and makeup to your session. Although, many of my clients chose to do their own make-up or skip make-up entirely especially for the Skin Series session.
““The reality of the session was beyond my wildest expectations. I was not sure initially how to prepare for a boudoir, and was unsure of how my body would photograph, or what poses would look good with my short stature because I have never done a photoshoot like this before. I was beyond impressed with the guidance I had received throughout my session from Agnes with poses and angles. Agnes made me feel comfortable, beautiful, but most importantly confident. The whole photoshoot was very artistic, and upon viewing my gallery I literally had goosebumps! At the end of my photoshoot, I felt more beautiful and confident than ever before.””
